IFFBoston Interview: I Need That Record!
Bostonist
Bostonist: What inspired you to create a documentary about the plight of independent record stores?Brendan Toller: I got my first turntable and first records (early Beatles Bowie’s Space ddity) when I was 9. Going to record stores was always something I grew up with going with my dad and at age 1213 it started to become my own thing. Record Express was a New England chain that I had grown up with: 3 stores within a 30-mile radius I’m guessing. So there were a lot of great discoveries (Clash – London Calling Neil Young – Tonight’s the Night Dinosaur Jr. The Damned) while mom was shopping at TJ MAX or Joann Fabrics. Around age 15 16 and 17 I was in there almost once a week buying new releases and scouring the used section. When I went to Hampshire College in Amherst MA I was spoiled: 6 records stores (now down to 4 I think) with great taste selection and prices.

In January 2009 Arkados announced teaming with Freescale Semiconductor Inc. to bring a versatile “Whole-House Audio In a Box(TM)” platform to market. The platform uses Arkados’ HomePlug(R) based multimedia streaming technology and Freescale’s Synkro wireless communications technology enabling untethered devices to control and monitor the system and display live data. This platform was announced at CES 2009. Also in January 2009 Arkados was recognized through awards given to the products of our customers: Checkolite International received a “CES Best of the Best” award from G4 Television for a system that combines whole-house audio with lighting control; Russound’s Collage and NuVo’s Renovia systems were each recognized as Honorees in the 2009 CES Innovations awards. Both the NuVo and Russound systems were displayed at the 2009 Electronic House Expo (EHX) and were singled out by CE Pro magazine in a list of Ten Products to Watch for in 2009. Each system is built around the Arkados chip and software platform.
UN gangsters accused in murder plot against Bacon brothers
Vancouver Sun
Integrated Gang Task Force announced last May that the Bacons and their associates had been targeted for death by rivals and anyone near them could be killed in the cross-fire. Since then three other public warnings have been issued by police and extraordinary surveillance has been done on all three brothers as well as associate Dennis Karbovanec until his guilty plea in the Surrey Six case April 3. It is hard to know how much of the brazen gang violence over the last year is linked to the war between the UN and the Red Scorpions two home-grown Lower Mainland gangs involved in the drug trade. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team recently confirmed that a young stereo installer named Jonathan Alex Barber was gunned down by mistake last May 8 as he drove one of the Bacons? vehicles through Burnaby. Police suspected UN members. Bacon pal Karbovanec was shot and wounded in a targeted attack Dec.

Inside Futures
Yet while the Dow may be headed to challenge 8500 next among the Softs the focus seems to have returned to the demand side – and what about that where is the demand? Demand for the futures contracts is one thing is demand for the underlying commodity another? ne key for Softs this coming week ought to be what kind of reaction they offer to whatever transpires in the dollar. Cotton certainly has shown signs of good demand as confirmed by positive export sales and cotton prices improved again this past week. The trend is up; however open interest hasn't grown correspondingly. (I was down over 8000 contracts in the last week one possibility the result from option expiration). That makes momentum a question. Can this move up continue? I think if it does it will only tend to hamper the market's bullish chances later this summer. Selling seems to be lacking.

A choir comprising mixed voices meets once a week for training at the school; while vocal exercises and warm ups are a part of this choral as well they are also exposed to a various styles of singing inclusive of Acapella singing sight reading and aural. “Majority of students who come here are ones who haven?t been trained to sing and when they come to me they come saying they can?t sing” voiced the Director of the school. From the hesitant yet interested students who walk through the doors on their first days at the school these individuals have grown to confident singers who are eager to take their first steps on stage this May with ?Beat It ? In a Singing Style?. What Prashalini has given to them and is still giving them is their own space to grow and become affluent in their talent and passion for singing. A remarkable songstress herself “My mom and dad tell me that ever since I was a child I showed talent in singing” began Prashalini when asked to sketch the melodious tenure of her life. Intrinsic with such a talent at such a young age she grasped any opportunity to sing that trotted her way whether it was at Sunday School or at home with a group or solo “I was quite confident in that way” she laughed remembering. Her mother was a music teacher in many schools and she used to sing as well.
