ORGANIC SCHOOL GARDEN
CHICAGO The 8-year-old girls peer through the leaves of basil,
green bean and cucumber plants, searching for peppers that still
need to be picked. “The droopy one is peppers,” third-grader
Simran Shankardass calls to her best friend, Jessica DeKoven. If
all goes well, the organically grown fare will end up as food for
students at the Louisa May Alcott School, where a large vegetable
garden just outside the cafeteria is planted, tended and harvested
by students. Related story: School Gardens. SPECIAL FEATURES:

Stamford-based Harman readies to weather economic storm
Stamford Advocate, CT
Retail prices range from about $50 for an iPod Shuffle to $250 and more for an iPod Classic, according to online merchants. Even a slumping economy can boost Harman sales, Giffin said. More consumers will purchase quality sound systems and speakers for their home music and TV systems, as prices for movies and sporting events get prohibitively expensive, he said. “People do have less money to spend,” Giffin said. “That gets them thinking, ‘How do we entertain at home?’ Rather than going out, they turn to our industry. They console themselves by buying something that improves their homes with an investment that lasts for years. Laura Hubbard, spokesman for the Washington, D.

The Shawshank Redemption
DVD Talk, OR
By writing the films with the pacing he does, it gives you the impression of reading King’s books. There is even heavy emotional investment in the character with even just a little bit of screen time. It helps that many of the characters are perfect in their cast roles, they deliver the dialogue with a familiarity that we’ve all grown to enjoy through the years. About that dialogue, what struck me about it again after so many years was the fact that through the years, it’s become even more suited to me as I’ve grown up through the years. How many times have we heard words like “obtuse” in movies? It’s almost like the characters refuse to be compromised for the sake of success and popularity that, as it turns out, they’ve received through the years. All in all, I was amazed when I first saw this on video, and I really enjoy rewatching and revisiting the experience. To watch how Andy gently (but subtly) has Red believing in hope by the end of the film is worth the price of admission itself, and this film is a real experience.
