The location based services (LBS) sector has long searched for a winning application. But despite the volume of ideas – ‘find my nearest’, friend finders and location-enabled marketing are all stalwarts of those blue-sky scenarios conjured by LBS conference speakers over the years – the quest has proved largely fruitless. As the mobile location sector has wondered around in circles, though, a thriving industry has grown up around personal navigation devices (PNDs) – or sat-navs – proving that location-enabled services can sell. Analyst house In-Stat has put 2007 PND shipments at 30. 7 million and forecasts rapid growth to 68 million by 2012. These figures are dwarfed by the sales of mobile phones, of course; in the second quarter of this year, handset shipments hit almost 305 million by Gartner’s estimation. But while the PND sector might represent just a fraction of the mobile industry, it has achieved something that, thus far, has eluded its cellular counterpart: the creation of a successful location-based proposition.

? Tillman sermonizes about the intense commitment of the people at CBS. ?There is a connection here and an awareness of the SEC and its rich tradition that I don?t see matched anywhere else in the country. A lot of it is because other people don?t cover it as much as we do but Tim lives and breathes it and I have grown to appreciate this style of ball. We?re passionate about what we do. ?
The SEC game broadcast live each week by CBS entails hours of preparation to insure the cavalcade of information and entertainment expected in college football. Storylines accompanied by graphics are the instruments interlocking the milieu with the action of the game providing the spiritual ritual for the devout nation of southern football disciples. Personifying passion is the SEC?s gift to the college football kingdom and the faithful folks expect reciprocal coverage from those who are entrusted with documenting the history of a proud and prestigious athletic entity transcending a game they love.

Sales of cassette players have
significantly dropped due to a technology shift towards CD and MP3 formats. It
is only CD players that have managed to retain sales though it is a very small
segment,? said Philips Electronics India V-P (consumer lifestyle) S
Nagarajan. Little wonder, Samsung?s home theatre sales has
grown by over 40% this year. It is now launching six new models for the festive
season. ?The healthy growth in home theatres is also linked with the sales
of LCD TVs. We are seeing a near 25% attachment ratio of home theatres and LCD
TV sales,? Samsung India deputy MD R Zutshi told ET. The
average price of home theatre systems have fallen from Rs 20,000 to Rs 9,000
over the last two years.

Amina further attributes their success to the fact that they have firmly established themselves as an industry leader in the completely hidden loudspeaker markets outside of their home base in Europe, and have done so in both commercial and residential markets. “That was a hard battle to fight, since North America has several competitive products in our category that don’t always provide the results desired by the end user, namely high fidelity sound,” says David Frey, Director of Marketing. “Not only do we now find Amina in high-end home theatre and whole-house audio applications, but have penetrated the commercial markets including shopping malls, Theatres, Museums, Luxury Automobile Showrooms, and High-end fashion shops from Manhattan to Milan. Amina is fast becoming the first choice in 100% invisible high-definition speaker systems worldwide. ”
