Home theatres speak volumes for change
Economic Times, India
Sales of cassette players have
significantly dropped due to a technology shift towards CD and MP3 formats. It
is only CD players that have managed to retain sales though it is a very small
segment,? said Philips Electronics India V-P (consumer lifestyle) S
Nagarajan. Little wonder, Samsung?s home theatre sales has
grown by over 40% this year. It is now launching six new models for the festive
season. ?The healthy growth in home theatres is also linked with the sales
of LCD TVs. We are seeing a near 25% attachment ratio of home theatres and LCD
TV sales,? Samsung India deputy MD R Zutshi told ET. The
average price of home theatre systems have fallen from Rs 20,000 to Rs 9,000
over the last two years.

What’s hot in high tech?
Times and Transcript, Canada
The showcase features the latest innovations in digital cameras, video cameras, security systems, sound systems, mixing boards and other technology. The booths at the trade show are staffed by sales representatives from such companies as Canon, JVC, Sharp and many others showing samples of their products. “All this technology has grown by leaps and bounds over the years,” said John Devries of Mississauga, a sales manager for Roland Systems Group of Canada, which deals in a variety of audio-visual components. Yesterday, Devries was showing off a computer-controlled audio-visual mixing board system with touch screens and hand controls. Basically, the system takes audio and video feeds from the computer and cameras to allow the operator to choose and blend elements that can be shown on the Internet or a big screen. The system is designed for use by businesses, churches, theatres and hockey arenas. Having the system set up for a hockey game would allow the operator to blend music, stock footage and live action to a big viewing screen.

The title, Iyaniwura
Nigerian Tribune, Nigeria
So, when the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo chose to give Mrs. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello the title, he was not only thinking of honouring her as a valuable daughter of an older friend and former boss, being the first child of the former Head of State, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo but as a valuable and precious daughter of Egbaland who has grown, like all young girls eventually do, into a mother figure, and now as the Alake wants to drive home, a mother figure in Egbaland. Nothing wrong with that seeing she has moved not only from being a first daughter into an accomplished politician (warts and all), the Nigerian way and she can conveniently hold her own even without daddy putting in any word for her (is that right?). Any way, that is for another time. But what is the politics of Iyaniwura? Is it just to let the world know that the Alake is a loyal friend to a more loyal friend who ensured that he got to the throne? Or is it a follow up to his poignant observations about roads in Ogun State, which unfortunately were considered in government circle as very unsavoury? If I were the Alake, I would stay completely out of politics and mind my traditional duties. What do we make of this new title? Is it a replacement for the older and much revered title of Iyalode of Egbaland? Kabiyesi…k’ade o pe l’ori ki bata o pe l’ese; but just so that this would be a reality, why don’t you look for less controversial titles and less controversial people to bestow them upon? Once again, k’ade o pe l’ori ki bata o pe l’ese o Kabiyesi! FROM MY MAILBOX Re-Our Roads, The Death Traps About a year ago, the Hon.

It’s two movies and one big story! It’s like Darth Vader and the return of Darth and the Death Star but instead it’s Cooler, and Luke is played by Goku! DBZ style that is! Both movies are 45 minutes each. The first starts with a flashback to when Goku’s dad rose up against Frieza and sent his son Goku to Earth. Fast forward x amount of years and grown Goku has to deal with the past when Frieza’s big bro Cooler lands on Earth for some major payback. Seems he’s not keen on a puny Saiyan having killed his little brother Frieza the tyrant! It’s funky because Cooler is one cold villain, it’s not that he was so happy with his brother, he’s here on a mission to restore the family honor which means he won’t be satisfied until he has Goku’s broken and dead body strapped to the haul of his spaceship! He didn’t come alone. He’s got his own mini-army of minions to do his violent bidding. They ambush the Z-team on a camping trip. They get the heck kicked out of them.
