“Johnson estimates that new vinyl releases account for 30 percent of M-Theory’s sales, while used vinyl sales account for another 30 percent to 40 percent of sales. MTheory’s best-selling new vinyl releases so far this year are by Radiohead, Nada Surf, The Hold Steady, Portishead and My Morning Jacket. At Lou’s Records in Encinitas, Calif. , vinyl sales have grown steadily over the past year while CD sales have decline. The best-selling vinyl albums at Lou’s are by Radiohead and indie-rock favorites Dr. Dog and Conor Oberst, along with a recent vinyl reissue of “Pacific Ocean Blue,” the 1977 solo album by Beach Boy Dennis Wilson. “Our Top 20 selling albums right now are all vinyl,” said Andrew Snodgrass, Lou’s manager.

This authentic sheen is thankfully preserved in the Blu-ray transfers. It’s not digital noise or other imperfections. What we see here looks like film grain and, as such, it’s almost certainly the best home viewing alternative yet to seeing actual film projections. Any fears of the image looking too clean or plastic now laid to rest, the second concern was how significant the restoration transfers would vary from the previous DVD releases. As to be expected, there’s obviously more detail and greater sharpness on this Blu-ray than on the 2001 editions. The degree is perhaps debatable, but the improvements are without question. These movies use darkness as well, if not better, than any colour films so the added detail is both impressive and noticeable.

First-graders hope to receive postcards, pictures and letters from students in other parts of our country, telling all about themselves and the areas where they live. Preschool students traveled to the Wills Family Apple Orchard and learned about how the apple seeds were planted and how they grew into fruit-bearing trees. They tasted products that were made with the apples that were grown in the orchard including apple pies, applesauce and apple butter. A representative at the orchard showed the students how to harvest beeswax and explained how beeswax was used in products such as candles and soap. Sixth-grade math students are getting a lesson on the cost of a family outing to the movie theater by solving the following problem: This afternoon, there is a new movie playing at the movie theater. Many people are waiting in line to by their tickets. Admission for one adult and three children is $17.

This is SO important because a redesign is just a first step in a whole new attitude. The Baltimore Sun is equally alive with evolution. And notable is that their recruitment classifieds called “Find It” (a complete and dramatic rethink) has GROWN in revenue by 9%. Key word there: GROW. A few ideas popped up in our discussions. One is that in our quest for local takes on Global stories, why not offer election polls based on neighborhoods? We have National State and regional, but imagine if you could see results for your neighborhood? Then there’s a very controversial item: “Special Advertising Sections”. The Baltimore Sun did some very nice special sections.
