Terror videos seized

Accused Shane Kent was also found in possession of the video of Mr Berg’s execution and Aimen Joud and Abdullah Merhi had videos of the shooting execution of an Iraqi hostage. Both Mr Benbrika and Mr Kent had videos of execution of Robert Jacobs, an American shot at his villa in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Mr Maidment said a book The 19 Lions, a reference to the 19 hijackers, was found during an ASIO raid on the home of 22-year-old Abdullah Merhi. It glorified the exploits of the terrorists who crashed passenger jets into the World Trade Centre and Pentagon, the Supreme Court was told. "It suggests they will go down in history as perpetrating one of the greatest victories ever perpetrated in the name of Islam," Mr Maidment said. Continuing his opening of the Crown case Mr Maidment said there was a "common library" of terror manuals and material supporting violent jihad used by some members of the terror group… Mr Maidment said the article made it clear fundamentalism was central to Islam. Another article titled "Welcome to death" promoted the notion martyrdom was something that was blessed and that a person could perpetrate violent jihad and terrorism with the fear of consequences. On trial are 12 Melbourne men, described as a home-grown terrorist group, who are accused of a series of terrorist offences. Mr Maidment said that according to material found in possession of members of the group there were seven gifts given to martyrs who died for fighting in the cause of Allah. All their sins were forgiven, they were safe from the punishment of the grave, they crossed the Syariat at the speed of light, they were given 72 wives and a special crown and garment in Paradise, they could intercede with Allah on behalf of 70 relatives and their soul was carried around in a green bird. Mr Maidment said that among the material found in posession of the accused was a song that stirred the listener to support violent jihad. Its lyrics included the lines:" We used to own this world for centuries.

Lakeland Brand Helps Beef Up Prices
Stackyard - Feb 14, 2008
Beef-bred mainly Limousin cross cattle have been selected for their superior and consistent quality from the same two hill farms in the region for a number of years. At Midtown Farm, cattle are finished on home-grown barley to meet the high specifications of the Pioneer Foodservice Lakeland brand, which is now gaining recognition in the market place since its launch seven years ago. “We are very pleased to have been selling beef through the auction at Borderway for the Lakeland brand since it started,” says Alan. “While producer prices for beef generally have not been as high as we would have liked, it is good to see Pioneer buying these quality beef-bred cattle through the ring and helping to boost the trade. “Not only can customers eating the beef be assured of its traceability, but the scheme is cutting down on food miles as well as promoting our area and the quality meat we farmers produce. “If we go out for a meal I always ask where the beef is from and if it is local – and if it isn’t I say they should buy Lakeland Beef from Pioneer!” Lakeland Beef is a partnership between Pioneer Foodservice, based at Rosehill, Carlisle, auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington, whose mart at Borderway neighbours Pioneer’s headquarters, and abattoir firm Dunbia, of Sawley.

Football must be gauged in trophies not profits
Telegraph.co.uk - Feb 14, 2008
The percentage of international players playing in first-team squads is 37 in Italy and 38, 39 and 50 in France, Spain and Germany respectively. In the Premier League it is 63 per cent. Between them, using a larger proportion of home-grown players, these other European leagues have won the Uefa Cup and Champions League 21 times against three victories for Premier League clubs. Their national sides seem to prosper as well; since 1992, they have won either the European Championship or World Cup four times. How many times have England won an international trophy since 1992?The other point advanced about this global business is that we benefit from the highest level of quality of our overseas players. Taking the list before the transfer window opened in the new year of the 72 Italian, Spanish, French, German and Brazilian players in the Premier League, only 25 were good enough to be regular internationals.

Europe’s economies Dangers ahead
economist.com - Feb 14, 2008
Jean-Claude Trichet, head of the European Central Bank (ECB), now concedes that gloom in America must darken the euro area’s prospects. Exporters hit by the strength of the euro cannot but find it harder when their second-largest market (America) turns down, especially as the largest (Britain) is slowing too. Yet politicians and central bankers are reluctant to admit to home-grown frailties. Their ritual invocation of Europe’s “sound fundamentals” and “lack of imbalances” seems like wishful thinking—or complacency. The facts suggest that Europe is not weathering the global financial storms well. Figures released on February 14th reveal that the euro-area economy slowed abruptly at the end of 2007. GDP rose by only 1.

Roger Rogerson rates Underbelly
NEWS.com.au - Feb 14, 2008
We had nine killed in a year which was pretty good. It cleaned the streets up a bit and saved the taxpayer money, instead of sending them to jail. It took me back a little, it’s been 24 years since I left the police force. For entertainment, I’d give it four out of five. I’ll be watching again next week and at least it’s home grown.
