On His Own, Adu Has Grown
Washington Post – Dec 25, 2007
On His Own, Adu Has Grown. Like any other 18-year-old coming home for the Christmas break, the teenager has stacks of video games next to the television and clothes strewn across the floor, eliciting a stern glare from his mother, Emelia… He says he learned valuable lessons about professionalism and maturity, with his missteps and growing pains lacking the overwhelming media glare that comes when playing the world’s game in Europe. “Sometimes me and Peter didn’t always see eye-to-eye,” said Adu, who had a long heart-to-heart with Nowak in October before playing for the national team in Switzerland. “But that made me grow up, some of the mistakes I made and especially when I went to media and said some things, it’s something I should have taken care of in the locker room. “Some mistakes I feel like I made as a 15, 16-year-old obviously I wouldn’t repeat now, because I learned a lot from it and it helped make me a better person and player and I’m benefiting from it right now to be honest with you. “Indeed, Adu has made no waves in Portugal since moving to Benfica on a $2 million transfer fee and signing a five-year deal worth about $1. 25 million annually. He embraced his nescient status and prepared to earn his roster spot, even though a frenzied throng of fans awaited his initial arrival at the Lisbon airport.
Russian Christmas trees struggle to be merry

” Russia has 80 million cubic metres of timber reserves, four times the amount in the United States, according to Izvestia daily. Although the Communists banned Christmas in 1917, they later allowed trees to be used in celebrating December 31 and the custom remains extremely popular. However, at any of the thousands of mini-bazaars that spring up in December shoppers are confronted either by a sickly home-grown effort, or a luxurious and wildly priced Danish import. As Zhigulina conceded, the Danish version “is better and it lasts longer, while the Russian one falls apart. The Danish one’s also got softer needles, which means it won’t hurt children, who are the ones you’re really buying for. ” But where a two-metre Russian “yolk” costs about 1,250 rubles (50 dollars, 35 euros), its deep-green, healthy looking European rival costs 4,900 rubles (200 dollars, 138 euros) — half the average Russian monthly salary. Experts say that gap in quality and price reflects the difficult climate for small and medium business investment here.

All that fiddly snipping for a few teeny leaves. What’s wrong with growing a lettuce to maturity and then picking and eating the whole thing? The CCA backlash starts here. Eating a home-grown peach might be the most pleasurable thing you can do with your clothes on. After failing with Senshyu, Snowball and Red Baron, I’m starting to think I’ve done something to offend onions in a previous life. Despite having spent days making 12 jars of the stuff, I have come to the conclusion that I’m not actually that keen on green tomato relish. Still, it settles the Christmas present conundrum. As for me, I’d like a nailbrush please.
Iran’s first home-made nuclear power plant to be operational in 9…
EastDay.com – Dec 25, 2007
The power plant “is scheduled to come online by the (Iranian) year of 1395
(March 2016 – March 2017),” said Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of the parliament’s
National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, in a report issued by Iran’s
Atomic Energy Organization. The conceptual design of the 360-megawatt power
plant, which will be built in Darkhowein in the southwestern Khuzestan province,
started two years ago and was completed last year, Boroujerdi said. The detailed design is expected to be completed by the middle of the Iranian
year 1387 (about September 2008), he said, adding that the technical and
equipment design will be finalized by 1390(March 2011 – March 2012). The Russian contractor company Atomstroiexport is building Iran’s first
atomic power plant in the southern city of Bushehr, but the 360-megawatt plant
in Darkhowein would be Iran’s first nuclear power plant using domestic
technology.
