Economic Times – Dec 22, 2007
“China
has joined an elite world club after Japan, France and Germany, to become the
fourth country capable of turning out such high speed trains,” Wang Yongping,
Ministry of Railways spokesman, told Xinhua news agency. The streamlined train body,
made of aluminium alloy, is the lightest of its kind in the world, Wang said. The eight-carriage train can
seat about 600 passengers and will start running the 115-kilometre-long
Beijing-Tianjin route before the Beijing Olympics in August 2008, the report
said. It will cut travel time
between the two cities to about 30 minutes from the current 80 minutes, Xinhua

Is it worth selling the future for a shot at the title this season?

Coming from a Dodgers fan, I would love to see my team win the ring. It would mean a tremendous amount to me, as I invest a lot of emotion, time and money in the team that I love, and it’s worth it. Would I risk a shot at the ring to keep watching my favorite home-grown Dodgers players for the next 5 years? No question. For the first time since Fox bought and sold the team, the Dodgers are the Dodgers again. Sure they have some veterans that they bought, but who doesn’t these days? What sets them apart is their philosophy of pitching and speed, as well as their commitment to home grown players. Look at these young guys who are just getting started:

They used to identify themselves more with Orleans and Jefferson, but that’s not the case anymore. Tammany Republicans are trying to capitalize on the opportunity, saying it is time for a home-grown representative for an area that is seeing not only new residential development but significant commercial and retail growth. While Jindal, who lives in Kenner, is extremely popular on the north shore, only a local can completely feel the pulse of a place, said Stephanie Berault, chairwoman of the St. Tammany Republican Executive Committee. “There’s a lot of hope and optimism for growth on the north shore,” she said. “People want someone to be there who, first of all, shares that vision and, second, makes it a priority in terms of helping to make it happen.

Adrian Logan: Magic moments lift gloom

Harrington’s win showed that in sport sometimes the good guys do come out on top. It was quite week, too, at the Open for Rory McIlroy. Our own home-grown talent is going to be a player to be reckoned with in the years to come. McIlroy won the leading amateur at the Open before moving into the professional ranks. He’s only been there a short period of time but already he’s making his mark. Now this time last year who would have thought we would have been talking about cricket as one of the high profile sports? What a year it was for Trent Johnson and his team. They had travelled to the World Cup more in hope than expectation and came home heroes.

This has awonderful rich bouquet of nuts, acacia flowers and yeasty notes, yet on the palate it’s ultra dry, steely and minerally withoutbeing harsh, and is loaded with citrus notes, particularlygrapefruit and lemon zest. Plenty of fine bead, great persistence, loads of complexity yet a wine of finesse. DAL ZOTTO PROSECCO 2006 $36This is a fabulous home-grown prosecco – the only one inAustralia – that is drier than its Italian counterparts, justlovely. Full of refreshing lemony notes, crunchy fruit, it’s zingybut with some creaminess and richness mid-palate and an enticinggentle bead. Prosecco is often used as a mixer but Dal Zotto’sshould be enjoyed straight. CLOVER HILL 2003 $42This Tasmanian sparkling proves its pedigree year in and yearout, with the ’03 being richer and somewhat more voluptuous. It’sdeliciously yeasty and creamy, with a core of ripe red fruitthroughout and some spice, with loads of bubbles.
