Redskins’ Taylor Critically Hurt In Shooting at His Home in Fla.
Washington Post – Nov 27, 2007
Redskins’ Taylor Critically Hurt In Shooting at His Home in Fla. 26 — Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor remained in critical condition in a Miami hospital Monday night after being shot early in the morning in his Miami home… In 2004, Gibbs suspended Taylor for one game after he was arrested for driving under the influence; those charges were later dropped. In the past two years, however, Taylor has earned praise from coaches and teammates for maturing and better work habits. Portis, a former University of Miami teammate, said Taylor had grown up considerably since the birth of his daughter, Jackie, in May 2006. “It’s hard to expect a man to grow up overnight,” Portis said before departing for Miami. “But ever since he had this child it was like a new Sean. And everybody around here knew it. He was always smiling, always happy, always talking about his child.
Northern Ireland fans show English up

The attitude infiltrates some English fans, too – they boo national anthems as if they are at war. They are not; they are competing in sport. Much has been made of the shrinking number of home-grown players in the Premier League but Northern Ireland and Scotland have just done as well as England without a majority of Premier League players, and with a smaller pool from which to choose. English football does need radical change and it is shameful that Sir Trevor Brooking’s many common-sense ideas on improving technical skills have been ignored. Brooking should be put in charge for six months, with a mandate to make radical changes from elite level to the grassroots. Meanwhile, the English FA should face the fact that the England team are ordinary, Wembley is not the best stadium in the world and their players are over-hyped. The public and media should lower expectations about qualifying for the World Cup and enjoy Euro 2008 as a festival.
Desperate Somalia

Encouragingly, he said in his first speech that "consultations will be my first priority. " If Somalia is to be saved from another catastrophe, the solution will have to begin with a home-grown political bargain.
Anglophone French bands rock in English

Aaron’s album Artificial Animals Riding on Neverland – all in English bar one track – has sold 200,000 copies. Cocoon’s album, My Friends all Died in a Plane Crash, won the prestigious CQFD award from Les Inrockuptibles – the French equivalent of Britain’s NME magazine. For years French artists have shied away from singing in English due to a quota system which forces national radio to play 40 per cent of its songs in French, half from new artists.
