The Buy NZ Made campaign has launched the "NZ Grown" logo so growers and producers can use the kiwi-in-the-triangle logo on their fresh produce. Research recently conducted by Research International on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Development identified that eight out of 10 consumers recognise the logo, as do nine out of ten manufacturers. Buy New Zealand Made director Marcia Dunnett said today the time had never been better to help consumers identify home grown produce. "We encourage producers to consider using the logo on fresh produce as soon as possible," Ms Dunnett said.

According to Dr Shterin there are about 300 to 400 different new religious movements, or about 1,000 local communities allied to the larger movements. This, he says, includes “older groups” such as Jehovah’s Witnesses or Mormons. One of the largest “home-grown” groups is the Church of the Last Testament in Siberia, which has some 5,000 followers. Its leader, a 46-year-old former traffic policeman, predicted that the world would end a few years ago, but the date passed without incident.

Also commissioned for a full-run following an appearance in the showcase is The Kevin Bishop Show, featuring Star Stories’ Kevin Bishop. Both will air later in 2008. Speaking at the launch of Channel 4’s winter 2008 line-up today, head of programmes Julian Bellamy said: “In August, we promised to spend less on American programmes and focus more on home-grown originals. We have indeed reduced our spend on US programmes and this has allowed our head of entertainment and comedy, Andrew Newman, to commission more original comedy than we have had for some years on Channel 4.

UN committee approves draft resolution strongly condemning Myanmar…

Human Rights Council in Geneva. Substantively, Swe protested that the draft resolution's “real intention is to manipulate Myamnar's home-grown political process and to derail the seven-step political road map that Myanmar has set for itself for transition to a democratic society. ” Myanmar's government has been strongly criticized for sending troops to quash peaceful protests, initially led by students and then by Buddhist monks, in late September. The military junta said 10 people were killed, but diplomats and dissidents say the death toll is likely much higher. Thousands were arrested, though Swe said all but 91 “who have been found to have been involved in a conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism” have been released. Swe said the draft resolution “is replete with unfounded allegations emanating from the exiles and remnants of the insurgents who are waging a systematic disinformation campaign against Myanmar, aided and funded by some of the powerful Western countries.

I mean the question is, do I want to die? Oh, and by the way - they know all my family. ”
The Pakistani military, which came of age fighting arch-rival India on more conventional battlegrounds, is little prepared to face a classic guerrilla insurgency. While some of Swat’s militants are foreign origin, the majority is home-grown, nourished on local antipathy to a government that doesn’t represent their wishes. “The militants have stopped tourism and disrupted their lives, but the government doesn’t have the people’s sympathy either. ” A military crackdown, and the inevitable civilian casualties, will only estrange the people further. “This is the kind of counterinsurgency training that the military lacks,” says the military official. “There has got to be a strong information campaign to go along with the kinetics (military force).

South Africa to see leaner-looking Lions

“Commercially we have no problems but it’s felt that we should return to more traditional values. It’s easy to say we took too many last time but there was a logic there. As for the coach, we wouldn’t want to paint ourselves into boxes but home-grown would be a definite plus. The incoming coach will have his own views so we wouldn’t want to set a precise ceiling on numbers at the moment. “Woodward set off with 45 players and a back-room staff of more than 20. “Mind-boggling,” was how former All Black Murray Mexted described the retinue. The policy did not meet with universal approval, then or now.
