Yet after finishing with identical 96-66 records, the Tribe found a way to get the job done. The principal reason clearly lies in player development. Under the direction of general manager Mark Shapiro, the Indians have churned out a slew of good, young players in recent years. The minor league system introduced three every-day players this season in first baseman Ryan Garko, second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera and right fielder Franklin Gutierrez. Fausto Carmona transitioned from a rocky rookie year as a reliever in 2006 into one of the premier starters in the American League in `07.

Neo-liberalism, in its attempts to break down all
national boundaries to facilitate global trade
denominated in fiat dollars, is the ideology of
super imperialism. Hudson, the American
heterodox economist, historian of ancient
economies and post-WW II international
balance-of-payments specialist, advanced in his
1972 book the notion of 20th century super
imperialism. Hudson updated Hobson’s idea of 19th
century imperialism of state industrial policy
seeking new markets to invest home-grown excess
capital. To Hudson, super imperialism is a state
financial strategy to export debt denominated in
the state’s fiat currency as capital to the new
financial colonies to finance the global expansion
of a superpower empire. No necessity, or even
intention, was entertained by the superpower of
ever having to pay off these paper debts after the
US dollar was taken off gold in 1971. Monetary Imperialism and Dollar
HegemonySuper imperialism transformed into
monetary imperialism after the 1973 Middle East
oil crisis with the creation of the petrodollar
and two decades later emerged as dollar hegemony
through financial globalization after 1993. As
described in my 2002 AToL article,.

com reported Tuesday that Hou is also raising funds at the ongoing Pusan International Film Festival in South Korea. In Middle East movie news, Abu Dhabi launches its first film festival and fund next week in a bid to grow a movie industry in a Gulf Arab region often seen as a cultural desert and where films are often heavily censored. Running from Oct 14 to Oct. 19, the Middle East International Film Festival aims to encourage home-grown talent and emerging filmmakers with cash and the Black Pearl Awards trophies. Running parallel to the festival is a financing effort that brings investors and production firms together with filmmakers to develop local talent and international co-productions. “This is different in that it is not your normal glitz and glamour festival, to promote tourism, to show your country’s best movies,” said Executive Director Nashwa al-Ruwaini. “It has many variables and they all target starting an industry, a movie business out of Abu Dhabi.

Platini thinks EU will scupper FIFA plans
rte.ie – Oct 12, 2007
World governing body FIFA hopes to impose a policy which would ensure all clubs field at least six home-grown players in their starting line-ups by 2010. But European football chief Platini contends that an individual’s legal freedom to seek employment in any of the continental union’s member nations means there is no way FIFA could make such a ruling. ‘It’s impossible,’ Platini told Sky Sports News. ‘We cannot defend that today; we do not have the legal framework. ‘The free movement of workers is the number one rule in Europe.
