If the pancake paddocks around Deniliquin are close to bereft oflife, the muster and its home town are very alive indeed, and theyconstitute a model for what a determined and visionary communitycan do to cope with the vagaries of Australia’s inland climate. TheUte Muster began with an idea in 1998 and now injects $6 millionand immense pride into the local community each year. The success of that event sparked a Christmas in July, where 3500 people were served full Christmas dinners. These are not entirely isolated self-help programs. When TheAge visited the Exchange Hotel this week, a raffle was doingthe rounds. It turned out to be a new regular fund-raiser to helpDeniliquin high school provide breakfast to students who need it.

Will peaceful protests prevail in Myanmar?
Jamaica Observer - Sep 29, 2007
By the early 19th century, Britain, which was already well ensconced in neigbouring India, invaded Burma and established a colony. In the 1920s, anti-colonial sentiment became quite strong, and a two-year uprising began among the peasantry in 1931 against European companies. A home-grown political grouping began calling for independence, and the British converted Burma to a crown colony in 1937, allowing it considerable autonomy. During the Second World War, the nationalists organised the Burma National Army, led by Aung San. The independence movement was in full swing in next-door India, which cut the British ties two years after the war ended. A year later, in 1948, Burma became independent, led by U Nu, who declined membership in the Commonwealth. The government faced immediate challenges from several ethnic minority groups - the Karens of the Irrawaddy Delta as well as the Chin, Kayah and Kachin hill tribes.
No Price Hike for SQL Server

He also said he is tracking the Filestream feature in SQL Server 2008 that lets users store a pointer in a database used to retrieve unstructured data from a file server, a much faster and cheaper alternative than storing and retrieving that data from a database. Bresnan has a home-grown application to perform that task. “We retain our customer statements for two years and will eventually have a file system with 17 to 19 terabytes of data,” he said. But regardless of need, he says an SQL Server 2008 rollout is at least a year away. “We always wait for the first service pack and then we will set up a test environment and start tracking issues others companies are having,” he said. Kummert then launched into a series of demos highlighting features around management, the use of new data types, productivity gains for developers, and expansion of the database’s user population.
