Huge demand for new allotment plots
East Anglian Daily Times - Sep 25, 2007
“My first thought was ‘who would want an allotment nowadays?’, but when I looked into it I was amazed at the amount of people that came forward and said they wanted one,” said Mrs Mason. “I think in the past, allotments have been stereotyped as being things owned by older people. But more and more people want organic, home-grown produce and vegetable plots seem to be becoming fashionable - four of the people on the waiting list for the plots in Brandon are young. “It has taken a lot of organising, and all sorts of work has had to be carried out including archaeological investigations of the site, but it looks like it is finally going to happen and it is very exciting. ”
