Towers playing finders-keepers
San Diego Union Tribune - Sep 19, 2007
What about the future?

For quite some time, San Diego's farm system has been criticized, producing arms but not everyday players. Never mind Towers has used his pitching depth as trade chum, there just hasn't been much down below in the position player department. The Padres start one home-grown everyday talent, shortstop Khalil Greene. The Diamondbacks have them. The Rockies have them… We're going to have a young, competitive ballclub for years to come. We're in a much better position than we were two years ago. I think fans like home-grown players, and we have a good group coming. ”

Youth can be refreshing – if youth can go out and play well.

Earthquakes and Terrorism

I stopped her and explained that she couldn't enter since the building had been evacuated because of a bomb threat. She said in a very distressed voice, "Oh, terrorists?" "No," I said. "Probably just some home grown nut. " Her response was, "Oh, well. That's ok then. Terrorism is obscene.

State combats Solano County medflies with quarantine zone
San Francisco Chronicle - Sep 19, 2007
A quarantine does not necessarily mean that products cannot be shipped out of the zone, but shippers will be regulated if they are, said Lyle. The state is negotiating with growers “to try to reach agreement on how mitigation would take place and sign them to compliance agreements,” said Lyle. People traveling through the zone are urged not to remove fruits and vegetables from the area, whether grown commercially or home grown. Residents may dispose of fruits and vegetables by double-bagging them and placing the bags in the garbage. An eradication program for the medfly is already under way. California breeds medflies in facilities in Hawaii and Guatemala, making males sterile through irradiation. As pupae, they are transported to a rearing facility in Los Alamitos (Orange County), where they become flies.

PM rejects plea from Uefa chief
BBC News - Sep 19, 2007
“There is no doubt that the influx of money into football is a testament to its success and has brought many benefits. It, of course, brings challenges too and we welcome the ongoing constructive debate within the game. ”

Platini was elected Uefa president in January and has since questioned the role of agents, spoken out against racism and violence in the European game and appealed for an increase in home-grown talent. Additionally, the former France midfielder has proposed that countries reserve one of their Champions League places for the winners of their national cup competition. He has also called for the G14 to disband and drop a number of lawsuits it is supporting. The G14 represents 18 European clubs, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all current members. Platini wants the G14 to air their grievances through a new body - the Professional Football Strategy Council.

In Focus: Some modesty, please
Al-Ahram Weekly - Sep 19, 2007
Six years later, and thanks to the notoriety of Osama Bin Laden and his like, we’re still the bad guys. Arabs and Muslims may denounce terror all they want, but that doesn’t count. The Arabs and Muslims were the worst victims of terror, both home-grown and imported, for decades, but that doesn’t count either. Over the past century or so, domestic terror has escalated in the Arab and Muslims worlds at the hands of extreme and insular groups that claim a monopoly on truth. Some of those groups have had explicit or implicit support of the West. A few were custom-made by the West. But that doesn’t count.

"I used to guard my guys in practice all the time," said Speights, "and I think they’re better than [Oden], so it was nothing. " Speights, who had also scored 16 points in a first-round rout of Jackson State, began to appear on draft boards for 2009. His name is currently ninth on DraftExpress’ ‘09 mock and 24th on NBADraft. net’s, impressive standing for a home-grown (St. ) kid who didn’t start playing organized basketball until the 10th grade. Using close-to-home comparisons, there are expectations that he’ll have Noah-like freshman-to-sophomore explosion and emerge as a Horford-like force in the post.
