“The Internet is the new Afghanistan,” New York police chief Raymond Kelly said, as he released a New York Police Department (NYPD) report on the home-grown threat of attacks by Islamist extremists. “It is the de facto training ground. It’s an area of concern. ” The report found that the challenge for Western authorities was to identify, pre-empt and prevent home-grown threats, which was difficult because many of those who might undertake an attack often commit no crimes along the path to extremism. The report identified the four stages to radicalisation as pre-radicalisation, self-identification, indoctrination, and jihadisation, and said the Internet drove and enabled the process.

Although it’s uncertain whether China will issue the 3G licenses before the event, industry players say TD-SCDMA will definitely take center stage. “TD-SCDMA will play a critical role during the Olympics, and the networks will absolutely be up and running before the Olympics,” says Hu Jian, deputy director of TD-SCDMA at ZTE. Earlier this year China extended pre-commercial testing of the home-grown 3G standard to 10 cities from the original three, in its latest move to push TD-SCDMA into commercial use. While China Telecom and China Netcom are to expand their respective TD-CDMA networks in Baoding and Qingdao, China Mobile will set up new networks in six other cities: Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Shengyang, Qinghuangdao, and expand the existing one in Xiamen. Hu adds that ZTE has been selected by China Mobile as the sole network supplier for the TD-CDMA network in Beijing, as well as one of the suppliers for the networks in Tianjin, Shengyang, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Qinghuangdao. The networks promise to be quite sophisticated. The Beijing network, for instance, will consist of more than 3,000 base stations.

City scored the only goal of the game with a sensational 43rd minute strike from Michael Johnson in a performance dominated by home-grown talent, Micah Richards and Stephen Ireland also shone, with excellent supporting performances from Eriksson’s new signings. “It’s good to see the home-grown boys,” Eriksson told Sky Sports. “Johnson scored a fantastic goal today, Micah Richards played very well and Ireland had a fantastic match I think. “Everything looks very positive. ”
A sterner test lies in wait on Sunday as City face rivals Manchester United, but despite an encouraging start, Eriksson insists on keeping his feet on the ground. “It’s a big game against the champions and I look forward to it,” Eriksson added.

TELECOM TEST-BEDHDTV aside, the Beijing Olympics will also be a test-bed for new wireless technologies, including home-grown TD-SCDMA and WiMAX, both of which will be deployed for the first time in China. Crafty Synovus Is a Great Bank Play

8% ownership stake in TSYS (TSS) , a publicly traded company that provides outsourced payment services for credit card, debit card, consumer finance and other types of companies. On July 24, Synovus announced it was considering spinning off TSYS as a separate company. With or without TSYS, Synovus is a bank with a strong operating strategy and a track record of success. It has also come to the attention of two strategies I use that mirror the investment philosophies of Wall Street giants Warren Buffett and Peter Lynch. The strategy based on Buffett’s investment approach looks for companies with a competitive advantage. Synovus’ community-bank appearance and big-bank sophistication give it a leg up on its competitors. The consistent increase in EPS is also a positive.
