By the end of this year, Sirtech is expected to employ up to 700 people as its business operations expand. "We at Sirdc were very excited to host African diplomats because it gave us an opportunity to showcase our capabilities," said Dr Robson Mafoti, chief executive of Sirdc. "We also wanted to prove to them that developing home-grown solutions is the only way for developing Africa. "He said the interaction between Zimbabwean scientists working at Sirdc and African diplomats promoted scientific collaboration among Africans and stimulated regional research alliance. Sirdc and CSIR in South Africa and Botech in Botswana are working closely on this regional research alliance with a view to sharing experiences, integrating research programmes, networking and strengthening scientific and technological capacities among scientists working for these three research institutions in the region. "This model can be expanded to cover the rest of Africa and certainly cover the entire Sadc family," Dr Mafoti said. "Diplomats were not only impressed by the Slate programme, but also by all the programmes at Sirdc.

In the 1990s and early 21st century, America watched a home-grown epidemic in the form of methamphetamine spread across the nation. Unlike most other illicit drugs, methamphetamine is easy to make from inexpensive, readily obtainable chemicals. Accessibility of precursor chemicals caused a boom in the number of small labs that fed a growing addict population. The need to control access to these chemicals resulted in the passage of the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act. This law complemented similar.

The courts should be requiring SoundExchange and the record labels to prove damages before approving these rates. One question: if I have four people in my car listening to XM, do I need to pay for performance rights for the other three who have not paid for the subscription? I don’t think so, but if the record labels could figure this out, you can bet they will be seeking to raise the rates again. Long live home grown music. May all musicians record and produce their own for distribution.
