Federer eyes record at new-look Wimbledon
Independent Online - Jun 25, 2007
Amelie Mauresmo will not begin the defence of her title until Tuesday against American Jamea Jackson but she is already well versed in the main requirements needed to win a Wimbledon crown. “Patience - that’s sometimes a key word here at Wimbledon,” she said. Patience is something that British fans are all too familiar with as Tim Henman will once again shoulder the nation’s hopes of ending a 71-year-wait for a home-grown men’s singles champion. Weather permitting, Henman is expected to follow Federer on to Centre Court for an intriguing meeting with former French Open champion Carlos Moya. But British prospects appear extremely bleak this year as Andy Murray has withdrawn after failing to recover from a wrist injury, while Henman has managed to win only two tour matches all year and is ranked 78th in the world. Third seed Andy Roddick was left to curse his luck when he was drawn in the same half as Federer. But before the American can even start looking towards narrowing a 13-1 losing record against the Swiss in a possible semi-final showdown, he will have to negotiate compatriot Justin Gimelstob.

This deal makes perfect sense for both sides. It just depends if the Red Sox are willing to give up what Chicago is asking, which is apparently a top pitching prospect (Clay Buchholtz or Jon Lester), and a mid-level prospect (Jacoby Ellsbury). The Red Sox may not be willing to give up their home grown future in order to have a very strong rotation for the next 3-4 years. But if the asking price drops, to a top prospect and another young player, it may be too tempting to refuse for Theo Epstien. If Boston could sign Buehrle to a 4 year extension, he would be locked up with Matsuzaka and Beckett in what would be a dominating rotation for years to come. Other teams interested in Buerhle are the Phillies, Yankees, and the Mets. FANTASY ANALYSIS
Its almost a guarantee that Mark Buerhle will be moved somewhere, and anywhere is better than Chicago, were the team batting average is a measly.

‘Shortage of engineers hurting US’
Economic Times - Jun 25, 2007
“So in the future, my expectation is that acquisitions
will move to Asia. It’s not
happening yet but the trends are there. ” Indian companies “have until now
focused on outsourcing- services jobs but the Chinese have begun to build actual
home- grown software,” the executive said. “There are some interesting
technology startups in China. ” Schwarz said none of the Chinese startups are
“in our domain just yet,” but he expects that to happen in three to five
years. Enough Capacity Lack of
education is not the problem and there is enough university capacity in North
America and Europe to train engineers, Schwarz said. “The kids don’t want to do
this work,” the executive said.

On the one hand, it’s appealing to application server and application vendors while potentially miffing those whose business relies on selling databases. That’s a particular problem in middleware, as often that’s one and the same company. Fortunately for Terracotta, IBM’s business units - especially Global Services - are particularly adroit are working with software that competes with home-grown products in order to win business and grow IBM’s overall revenue. Formal partnerships with “unnamed” vendors are in the pipeline. “The WebSphere guys and other application vendors should be pleased because we are enabling them to scale out more easily,” Pandey said. “For the database guys - we are improving performance.

The battle in the Palestinian territories
Hindu - Jun 25, 2007
It led to the formation of a national unity government in the Palestinian territories, with Fatah and Hamas as partners. More alarmingly, diplomatic success was achieved outside a western dialogue framework. Saudi initiative

The Makkah accord was an authentic home-grown Arab initiative — of Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz. Soon after it was signed, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Riyadh. Both sides pledged to bridge the Sunni-Shia divide plaguing the region and decided to work together in Lebanon and Iraq. Faced with a string of setbacks, a riposte from the west, aimed at regaining some of the lost ground was, therefore, imminent. Four months after it was forged, the Makkah accord is a shambles.
