Home-grown cannabis is a booming business
The Independent – Independent – Mar 13, 2007
More than 60 per cent of the marijuana now smoked in Britain is cultivated in this country, compared with just 11 per cent a decade ago. The plant is grown everywhere from inner-city lofts to secluded patches of farmland.

Gangs and ghosts push UK’s homegrown cannabis harvest to a record…
Guardian Unlimited – Mar 13, 2007
Plants are being grown and harvested at record levels for the UK cannabis market, and more than 60% of hash sold on the streets is believed to be home grown. The research, by the drugs charity DrugScope, reveals there are a staggering number of cannabis farms in operation, with the police raiding at least three a day. More than 1,500 have been shut down in London alone over the past two years. DrugScope says the rapid rise of homegrown hash in Britain has filled the vacuum left by drug users’ disillusionment with the quality of imported cannabis resin. The market share for homegrown has soared from 11% a decade ago.

A chance for the minnows to shine

Perhaps the most surprising name on the team list will be former West Indies bowler Anderson Cummins, now 40 years old but surprisingly called into the Canadian squad for the Kenyan tour and retained despite some distinctly averages performances. He stands to become only the second player – the first was Kepler Wessels of Australia and then South Africa – to appear for two different countries in the World Cup. While Kenya boast a home-grown side, Canada lean heavily on expats who have qualified for the country under ICC regulations rather than learned their game there. It remains a source of unease among many, but rules are rules and Canada cannot be blamed for making the most of them. Both sides have strong batting line-ups, although Kenya continue to struggle to find a productive opening partnership while Maurice Ouma has failed to establish himself as an international opener despite ample chances to do so. Kenya probably have the better bowling side, and Peter Ongondo is one of the best new-ball bowlers among the Associates. The St Lucia pitch is reported as being hard and even-paced, while there is the chance of some showers during the latter part of the day.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Florine C. Ruben, a brother and sister, three children, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Suva to bank on home talent
Fiji Times – Mar 13, 2007
This has meant the Whites will be looking at raw talent which will grace the paddock from Sunday. Suva Soccer Association secretary Rajnesh Singh said the focus would be to include new talent in the squad for the rest of the season. “As the president has said we will be relying on home grown talent and the local league will be the ground for breeding new players,” Singh said. There will be no University of the South Pacific club team which had been affiliated to the association in the past. Instead the USP side will play in the Rewa competition. “USP had been invited and they had agreed to join the competition but now they have decided to join the Rewa competition,” Singh said. Singh said the district team was training for the return leg of the Pillay’s Garments Champion versus Champion to be played on March 24.
