The show, which has a cast of 18 and a six-piece orchestra and is making its world debut at the Playhouse Theatre in Brisbane, has been developed over a five-year period. In that time, it won the inaugural Pratt Award for a new Australian musical. "This is an original home-grown product, and it’s wonderful to be on stage singing our own songs and telling our own stories for once," Arthur says. Sideshow Alley’s Brisbane debut will be critical to its ongoing success, says Arthur, because a good start at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre will determine how far it can go. Sideshow Alley The Musical opens on Saturday at the Playhouse Theatre, QPAC. Share this article.

However, if you ARE right, then the main dish will probably be home-grown, organic fertilized with some sort of feces, free from taste at least the good kind and cost about $500. ‘My songs come as a whiff of fresh air’
Times of India – Jan 27, 2007
Who’s there to question that? The day the award
committees decide to have singing experts on the judges’ panel, I’ll make an
appeal to call off this voting system in reality shows too. Why do you
think Pakistani singers like Adnan Sami and Atif Aslam are more popular than
some of our own singers and music groups?
That’s because we have a
fondness for foreigners. Our people underestimate home-grown talent. In
Pakistan, singers are more popular than actors, unlike here where stars and
cricketers get all the hype. Moreover, anyone who is so well respected in his
own country as Adnan Sami is, will command equal respect in another country as
well. Are
you happy with this exchange of
talent?
There’s nothing wrong
with it. But my only point is that there should be equal acceptability on both
sides of the border.
Sumo’s colossus wrestles allegations
The Age – Jan 27, 2007
Some question whether a man so dominant would need to fix fightsin his favour. “I suspect that there are some in the sport who do not like thefact that he is winning every tournament so easily,” said FredVarcoe, a sports journalist who has covered sumo for two decades. “There are no Japanese challengers to his dominance and he isclosing in on the records of the true greats. ” Renowned home-grownwrestler Taiho had 32 career victories and the immensely popularChiyonofuji 31. The sumo association has already questioned wrestlers below therank of sekiwake, or third division. None has admitted surrenderingbouts. The five men who make up the second-highest level in thesport, ozeki, are to give their testimony on Monday.
IT biggies set sight on global mega deals.

Of course there are bigger deals as well, but just around $50 million or a sprinkling of multi-year $100 million jobs — unlike the global big six IT services companies which have quite a few multi-billion dollar contracts. But things are changing fast. In a clear testimony to the fact that home grown players including TCS, Infosys Wipro, HCL and Satyam are beginning to sink their teeth into large deals, Indian IT service providers have ended up clinching a whopping 6 percent market share in the top 100 global commercial contracts in 2006. Remember all these are coveted global deals ranging anywhere between $200 million and $1 billion where Indian players have registered their presence. Therefore, India’s rising share only goes to show.
