A Bigot in Congress
Washington Post – Dec 22, 2006
IT TAKES NOTHING AWAY FROM MY RELIGION. THE WORD ALLAH MEANS GOD IN ARABIC JUST LIKE DIOS DOES IN SPANISH. For a country that is supposedly first world, there are lot of third world, no let me correct that fifth [or filth] world home grown here in the good ole U. Goode are or are related to a SHRINER.
R&D spending doesn’t always pay off–Booze Allen.
BusinessWeek – Dec 22, 2006
Dumping NIH—not invented here—R&D also saves money. There is a world of ideas out there—in Europe, Asia and among thousands of retired scientists and engineers that can and should be tapped by companies. They cost less than home-grown R&D and even if they cost more, they should be part of any corporation’s innovation arsenal. But clearly, the Booze Allen survey shows that most CEOs and top execs still don’t get it.
Review: Isaac B. Singer – A Life
International Herald Tribune – Dec 22, 2006
Singer often stripped much of the metaphysics and verbal density out of his native—language efforts, leaving a simpler mix of the imaginative and the quotidian, the carnal and the concrete, that he felt would appeal to the tastes of English-language readers. And they – especially American Jews – responded. Singer became for them an appealing combination of home-grown mystical realist and approachable modernist. In addition, he was the beneficiary of their guilt and grief over the fate of the people they had left behind in Europe. In 1978 Singer won the Nobel Prize in literature (Bellow had won it two years before). Post-prize, Singer became an Upper West Side cynosure, a besuited elf in a hat, feeding the Broadway pigeons. The world now – not just America but Europe too – responded to the Singer shtick.

First off re the Blues. I think John Davidson is a smart enough guy to see that the teams with the success today are the teams with more of a youth movement and a decent mix of veteran leadership. Case in point the Ducks and Sabers who have used home grown talent wisely. The Avs- The Avs basic problems are not as much the doing of Theodore and Budaj as it is lacking that big crease clearing D-man. If they get a crease clearer (maybe a used vet like Hatcher from the Flyers) then perhaps that will open room for the goalies to have better looks at incoming shots. Liles and Leopold, while serviceable, are not the crease clearing type. The Wings- While it is true Hasek has let in a few stinkers this season, it is more a matter of the D-men not swiping the pucks to the corners than anything else.

Please tell me something about this plant. , La Grange Night-blooming cereus is an interesting plant… The plant is easy to start from leaf or stem cuttings and does best in dappled shade. Minimal water is required; apply an organic fertilizer monthly starting in spring. I’m trying to identify a wasp or fly that has been prevalent the last several falls at our home in Dallas County. It hovers and darts about, making it hard to see for long. These bugs buzz around all day, hardly stopping. I have hundreds, if not thousands, of them in the lawn, shrubs and flower beds.
