(From Press Trust of India) Kolkata, Oct 30 (PTI) The early exit of the city’s glamour outfits from the 27th Federation Cup has kicked off a debate on whether Kolkata’s traditional pre-eminence in Indian football is ebbing away. The fade-out of the Kolkata challenge from the country’s premier knock-out tournament within the first five days, which followed the city clubs’ failures in the last National Football League and the previous edition of the Federation Cup, has caused a churning in the sporting circles here. Several reasons, including lack of home-grown talent and whimsical decisions by some leading coaches, are being cited for the poor show. The fact that all the four Kolkata teams.

Home – the first school

As you read on, you can decide what you can or will incorporate into your life. When I began home-schooling, I didn’t have access to some of the several hundred websites that today offer advice and information. Now that home-schooling has grown worldwide in many formats, anyone with a computer can link with individuals and groups for assistance and encouragement. I would especially recommend a visit to Clonlara, www. org, an online school that encourages home-schoolers to regard all activities as part of a child’s education and eligible for high school credits. A visit to these websites can strengthen the will of any parent interested in home-schooling.

30–They have been labeled a threat to families, praised as workers’ rights and, increasingly, hailed as good business. Domestic partner benefits, though legally contentious in the public sector, are gaining ground in corporate circles. Utah employers, both national and home-grown, are extending health coverage and other employment perks to unmarried couples in larger numbers than ever before. For example 20 percent of eligible employers who are enrolled with Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah, the state’s second-largest insurer, offer such benefits. Five years ago it was zero, says Kevin Bischoff, a vice president with the company. Currently, clients with 100 or more insured workers are eligible to offer the benefits but that could change if Regence receives requests from smaller employers, Bischoff says. Regence extended domestic partner benefits to its own employees in 2001.

At the age when I started burning to become a writer, I did so in part because I understood on an instinctive level that regionalism and provincialism are not the same thing. Literature should by definition have a universal appeal. This precept was taught to me by my writer grandfather (a co-founder of the Texas Institute of Letters and, therefore, someone with a vested interest in home-grown development), by my teachers and by the other American, European and British authors I read. Gripping human conflict, transcendent growth: that was what I wanted to write about. It didn’t matter whether it was set in Corsicana; Maycomb, Ala. ; or Paris, France – so long as it deftly spoke the heart’s truths. But the parochialism of the local literary vision common to that time bored me.

Irish return home from Eurosurf with an improved rating
Global Surf News – Oct 30, 2005
But they were magnificent as always in every way. They were up against the odds, no doubt about it, with many of the so-called smaller nations’ selection criteria quite different from ours. Home GrownThe Irish Team is fully home grown and is selected from Squad training and contest results. There is no room, no matter how good a surfer is, to fly in and join the team without joining the squad system first. Although any foreign surfer with an Irish Passport can surf for Ireland and would be very welcome to do so, the commitment is usually far too great. And Surfing is far more than just contests and results or placing at International events. The balance is very fine and I would like to think that we have that balance here in Ireland.

Chemical analysis, cosmetic businesses thrive in Chandler
East Valley Tribune – Oct 30, 2005
The Valentys may spend less time working in their labs, but they still occasionally put on white coats and rubber gloves and explore the molecules under their microscopes. “Last year was a record year for revenue,” said Steven, whose hobby, when he’s not at the laboratory, is taking photographs, a skill he learned from his father. “We’re a strong proponent of keeping manufacturing of products here, in the Valley and the United States,” said Vivian, who enjoys gardening, a hobby she learned as a child growing up in the Philippines, and one that, coincidentally, helped her company in later years for this reason: Family remedies made from home grown herbs, for example, were the basis for her early experiments in healing sources and helped her develope cosmetics that eventually led to the opening of V B Cosmetics. The Valentys have several patents for chemicals, including those used in cosmetics and sealants used on ceramics, that gives them exclusive rights as well as national and international distribution. Powered by Veka and other German-based firms in the international market, Germany is the world’s No. But at home, its economy has barely grown at all over the past four years and its unemployment is mired at 11 percent, about twice the level in the United States.
