Bristol aim to survive in style
BBC News – Aug 31, 2005
“We may have to alter our game plan if things are not going well but hopefully we can have faith in the way we are trying to play and it brings us some success. When he took over as coach following relegation two years ago, Hill had a three-year plan for the club to reclaim its place among the elite. Promotion arrived “a year ahead of schedule” with a largely home-grown squad of locally born and bred players…
Samoans Brian Lima and David Lemi and Fijian scrum-half Jacob Rauluni will bolster the backline, while Argentine duo Mariano Sambucetti (lock) and Martin Rospide (prop) will beef up the pack. “Hopefully if all goes well we can get a few more Bristolians back at the club, but we have got to survive for that to happen,” Hill said. “I have always been a great believer in developing home-grown players but for this year, our first-team squad will probably compromise two-thirds of non-English players. “We needed to buy a bit of time and bring the youngsters through. One player who will be charged with helping that process is 36-year-old lock Gareth Llewellyn, Wales’ most capped player. “We needed some experience in the second row and Gareth was involved in helping set up the Wales line-out system,” Hill added. “He is completely sold on the way Wales play, which is very similar to how we try to play.

This summer, my tomatoes measured up

But the tomatoes were a total flop. The vines looked fine, but only a couple of tomatoes ripened, and those were watery – a huge disappointment. Summer just didn’t seem complete without home-grown tomatoes. What went wrong, I wondered: Did I choose the wrong varieties for this area? Did I fertilize or water incorrectly? It was a puzzle. My failure really hit home when I was asked to be one of the judges in the 20th annual Massachusetts tomato contest. Farmers from around the state enter tomatoes in three categories: slicing, cherry, and heirloom. Under a big tent, long tables are filled with plates of each type.

China to build 3G TD-SCDMA test network by year-end – Xinhua
Forbes – Aug 31, 2005
2005, 04:11 AMBEIJING (AFX) – The TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance will build a proxy third generation TD-SCDMA network – China’s homegrown standard for 3G wireless telecommunications technology – by the end of year for trial 3G operations, the official Xinhua news agency reported. Citing Yang Hua, secretary-general of the government-backed alliance, Xinhua said the test network will be quickly converted into a trial commercial network after mobile operators receive 3G licenses, which will enable the home-grown standard to become the first 3G technology for commercial use. Yang said the test network can readily be converted to commercial use. Xinhua also quoted Hu Jian, TD-SCDMA product general manager of ZTE Corp (SZA 000063) – the main builder of the network – as saying ZTE is prepared to set up the test network in Shanghai where a few dozen base stations have already been erected. Hu said ZTE will build another five or six base stations for the test network in Shanghai soon, which will cover 10 sq km, adding that another three builders including China Putian Corp are also preparing to build such a network in Beijing. Che Lingfang, a media official with the TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance, told XFN-Asia in June that China will start commercial field tests of TD-SCDMA in the second half of this year, with the tests to last three to five months.
